Let’s do a quick recap of what we have learnt:
The “TEQUILA” sign is a compulsory element in all tequila labels.
Tequila is protected by its Denomination of Origin . It is a Mexican Intellectual Property. Protected by international trade agreements.
There are several other Denomination or Appellation protected food and drinks. Cognac, Scotch, Bourbon are denomination protected spirits of their respective countries where they are made.
The five Mexican States where tequila can be produced: Jalisco(all parts) and some parts of Nayarit, Guanajuato, Michoacán and Tamaulipas.
Tequila has to be made from blue agave by an Authorized Producer in one of the five Mexican States as part of the Denomination of Origin.
